IF you are damaged alot, best thing to do is usually turn the ship to the right as you enter the cut sceen. Tell all your crew not to shoot. Soon as you come out of cut sceen head slightly to the right and use take cover, and ramming speed.

If nobody shoots you may take a front gun shot, but surviving that will get you out away from Goliath. You should be able to pick it apart with everyone once you are out away from it.
