the war frigate is awesome against A.I. ships if you have a smart crew. put 2-4 crew on the front cannons, hit a ship to get it moving toward you, position the frigate to face the incoming ship, and put it in reverse. you can help your crew with 'open fire' and/or 'leadership' as well. if done correctly, you will rarely take damage.
