On Test, the black pearl itself has "infinite take cover" again. The only damage sustained, is the damage-over-time from fire-based shots. For example, after the frigates, you can just sit there for ten minutes with the first three forts shooting and hitting you; you sustain zero damage from them. (The middle forts shoot firebrand, which does do damage over time but does not register any damage from the initial hits.) The final two forts are easiest, instead of hardest.

Sidenote: when I tested it this morning on test, I did it with a pirate that doesn't even have take cover. The black pearl itself was simply invincible to everything except firebrand and explosive.
