There is a giant crab and a dread scorpion (but they are off to the side and easily avoided (unless you want them).

It mostly seems to be Gypsies, Grenadiers and Raiders. The raiders are mostly back by the entrance although I have seen some closer. There's also at least one fight gong on between Navy and undead- usually Officer v. Raider but today I saw Sgt. v. Brigand.

But there are shops there so you can get more ammo (gun and smithy). There's also a tattoo parlor, jeweler, barber and I think tailor.

They mostly only attack when provoked so you can go solo but I had a few instances where I had a pair of gypsies or a gypsy/grenadier combo. I love hex eater shot. Neutralize the gypsy, take out the grenadier and then finish off the gypsy.

Or bring a crew and go nuts.
