When Darkness Falls

I decided to give story making a shot after reading so many.. and I think I pushed my creativity to the max...

Prolougue

"And what shall he be called, Martha?” said The Gypsy as she cast a spell on the newborn. “I will name him after his grandfather, Edward.” “That is fine name for a young man. He must be brave if he is to overcome The Darkness.”

“He will be, it’s in his blood. Edward, you are destined to do great things, I have seen it… I only wish I could be there with you.”
With these final words Martha handed Edward over to The Gypsy, and passed away.

"I'll find a home for you, and I'll always be there to protect you until you are ready to protect us all."

"You will grow stronger and wiser with time. For now I must take you to find a family who will nurture and care for you." The Gypsy then placed Edward near a small cottage, and disappeared into the shadows.

Heartbroken

At the age of 19, Edward became one of the best doctors in the Caribbean. He loved to help his father Robert Richards out in his office. Once Robert went off, Edward was put in charge. Years later he met a young woman by the name of Susan, they married and had two kids, a boy named James and a girl named Sarah.

His son James always dreamed of being a pirate and sailing the seas, but Edward never approved. He wanted his son to follow in his footsteps and become a doctor. Edward and James often had verbal arguments over this. The more they argued, the further apart they grew.

One calm day while at the office, his brother Logan delivered to him dreadful news. A group of pirates broke into his cottage and his wife Susan tried to fight them off but there were too many. The pirates kidnapped the kids and forced them into their crew.

He searched for eight months before giving up and crying out to the sky. Suddenly, a strange woman approached him. He told her of his situation, and she gave him a gift for his troubles. He opened it but there was nothing but a mask. Angry, he threw it to the ground and cursed the woman.

He noticed the mask starting to glow. As he approached it he could hear a heavenly voice saying, “Put it on… Put it on…” reluctantly, Edward obeyed. The mask then consumed his mind, and showed him visions of the future. It showed him The Darkness, which he was destined to defeat. The last vision Edward had was of being back together with his family. The mask told him what awaits him once his mission was done.

The Mask explained to him that The Darkness comes to our world from a portal disguised as a body of water. Edward anxiously jumped into the first lake he saw eager to get this over with and be reunited with his family. As he sinks deeper and deeper into the water, he saw an unearthly being. It tried to make a grab for him, but suddenly a mystical force put a shield around him. It protected him from The Darkness, but not before it could take something away from him first.
