That wouldn't make anyone happy, especially if they didn't know and then found out when their sword got destroyed. Maybe it just makes it useless (weapon shards, think Lord of the Rings) until you go to a blacksmith and get it reforged?

That would be a cool idea... or maybe you would need a potion from the gypsy to reforge it.
