When doing the Kingshead part of the grenades quest:

If doing it alone; Attack each guard before you search the container he is guarding. It prevents you from being interrupted. (and dying cause you didn't get your weapon out in time.)

If doing it with help from a mate with a staff. Stay together, and let the person with the staff do the attacking before you start searching. No sense getting your protection killed because you went running around like a crazy person!
