Thanks for the tip I have only been killing Sergeants in the fort on Port Royal. I'll check out the other island.

Actually I have started over so many times with new characters that I can't remember if it actually changed on this one while I was working on it or if it changed because I switched from one character to another.

I just remember looking for a first mate and reading threads here where other people were looking for a First Mate, and then suddenly I noticed that mine said "sergeant".
