Reputation Points (or the Green Rum bottles you see in the up-right corner of a person posts) is just a method for others to reward a poster for an insightful / informatitive post or comment.

In the up-right corner the Add To Rep Button (Shown as a grey Check / X Box) can be clicked by other members, and they can add points to your Rep.

As time passes, more bottles appear as you gain Rep - until such time as you've been around so long the bottles are full (or in some cases, turn moldy - in a few others - turn very red )
