When I was a young pirate... before I was in a guild... before I had in-game friends to teleport to, I was sailing to Cuba all of the time for quests (before I got its totem). And this was when Cuba was a lot farther away from Port Royal (which I wish was still the case, way too close nowadays).
I think some of us need to think way back to when we were first starting out... when we didn't have access to teleport to each island or knew anyone that could. What? Was I the only one? Yes, Disney has catering to the newer players lately. Some of these updates, IMO, are pretty decent considering who they were aiming for (a few things I wish I had when I was starting out). We (as in those of us here on POF being overly sarcastic with every "meaningless" update/news) aren't the only ones playing this game. It's not about us all of the time.

I agree completely with Sven. When I first read the release notes on these latest updates I noticed that they talked about making the game experience flow better at the lower levels, including the quests for the first three members of the Pearl crew. I wanted to see what they did, so I started a new pirate on test and ran her through Carver, Greer, and Cutts. The quests flowed together much better in my opinion. I really enjoyed playing it. I even found that they added a new boss, an EITC thug boss in the Thieves' Den. You have to defeat him as part of the Carver quest.
