I have found that your best first step in finding certain items is skeletons..
Where they manage to hide this stuff is beyond me but they seem to have just about every item. So to maximize your chances (yes its all very random) go to the Port Royal graveyard, stand in the center and shoot the lvl 1-3 skeletons till they give you what you want. The next most giving group is the Kingshead field. They tend to give you medals and rogues but also the occasional chess piece. As far as menagerie items stumps are the best by far and they have the added bonus of giving the best cards to cheat with.. As for COTD there is a fine set of posts in COTD's forum that I made months ago explaining how to get all the pieces.. It should take you about an hour to get them all..
