For me personally, I skipped the Sloop. I have a regular Galleon that I happily sailed with all the way to level 15, using it to take out even the monsters, the Colossus, Dreadnaught, Behemoth, Death Omen, and Juggernaut. At 15 I got the War Galleon. It paid for itself in just a few short weeks! I went from making 700 a run to over 1000 every time! I sail solo a lot. To me the about only difference between the Gallon and the Frigate is running around the stairs to get to the cannons. Speed is about 1 knot different. Big whoop. The Frigate turns faster but this can be compensated with skill points in taking, or the come about maneuver.

While I don't disagree the Galleon makes a big target, it's armor makes up for that. I've taken hits from Death Omens with very little damage. I can't say the same for the Frigate. I did finally buy a War Frigate with money mostly from the Muertos quests. I prefer it with a crew. I sold my Sloop to get it. The Sloop was too low, making it hard to adjust for crew used to sailing the higher up ships like Frigates and Galleons. The Sloop did not seem any faster or more maneuverable than the Frigate, and so was pretty much useless to me. The other thing that makes a sloop useless is when that thing takes a hit it takes it HARD. Next to no armor, next to no cargo, last in line for me.

That said it really does depend on how you sail. If you like the cut and run attacks and don't mind going in far more often for cargo drops and repairs, go for the Sloop. If you're a solo sailor who likes to hit em hard with little damage and lots of cargo go Galleon. If you tend to small crew sailing (4 or less, not including you), front guns on a Frigate are pretty much unmatched. In the end it's all a personal choice really.

It all depends on your preferences. I like the frigates and sloops regardless of class and the way I sail reflects this. My little pirate just hit 20k gold and sailing level 15.... I plan on buying the war sloop, today. I am level 29 and will get the voodoo staff soon and then i will power level for the war frigate.

Well , I'll revise my opinion.

I would buy the Sloop O'war first and max out the cannon skill round shot, and already you will have a ship with hard attack power, then if you want even more damage max out broadsides for your sailing skill and max out barrage for cannon skill, if you want a super fast sloop for questing or just running away from explosives, max windcatcher and full sail as well.

Then with all this taken into affect, you can sink a Ogre or Monarch in 1-2 broadsides.
Even if Sloops don't hold much cargo, their ability to return to port quickly makes up for it's lack in cargo, meaning you can fill with up 14 pieces of cargo, return to port, make sail again all in the same general time it would take a Galleon O'war to make 1 run leaving you with 28 cargo instead of 18 cargo.

And as far as I know , there is only 1 ship that can top the Sloop O'war, and that is a Frigate O'war, with their array of cannons, but still the Sloop O'war is a great ship to buy and I recommend to get it as your first war ship.
