I was a toon-towner for years and had ( have ) a 115 toon named Queen Clover, which I selected from the auto name feature. It was after I had played for a while that I realized I could have typed a unique name in to be a bit more creative.
So when I decided to 'try' pirates in 2008 I recognized the similar nature of the two programs - either choose a standard name or create something unique. Well of course I knew I wanted something unique. Obviously I like cats ( just look at most of my pirate names) so I decided I wanted Kat. But also wanted something a little piratey. I looked around my room and my eyes fell on the Category Five cable ( AKA cat 5 ) near my computer. It just came to me.. Kat Five Knives is the marriage of my affinity for felines, computers, and pirates. Last edited by Kat Five Knives; 06-30-2010 at 03:07 PM.. Reason: Added a detail |

First Pirate Name
When we first started beta, I choose my name from the lists by random, then substituted my actual first name, which was one of the name choices. I ended up with XXXXXX Wildshot. Since it was beta, I figured the avatar would get wiped, or I would at least start over myself (since I almost always restart a game from beginning once I play through some and figure out the various game mechanics). So when I did start a new pirate I named him Captain Sureshot, since Sureshot is the opposite of Wildshot, and I found targeting in the game quite easy. I hadn't seen a Captain in-game up to that point. I used the same name when the game went live. Second Pirate Name About the time privateering went to the live server, I wanted to start a new main pirate since Sureshot's quests were still buggy, even after a fix. Plus, at the time, it seemed every third pirate was a Captain lol. I had always liked ships that had serpent names, and wanted a pirate name that would also have a serpent-type name. While researching serpent and dragon names and etymology, I came across Draco/Dracon, and chose Dracon. |

I have played many RPG's over the years, and other games where you name your charater. I have always strived to have a unique name.
When I came to pirates I made a pirate for my son. I used the random feature till my son said that sounds cool. His First pirate's name is James Daggersteel. I in turn kept Daggersteel as my Dname on my accounts. I then decided to make a pirate of my own. My first pirate's name is Rannulf Fritzwilliam. It was a slight change to a name of the lead charature in a book I was reading at the time about a Templar at the fall of Jereusalem. I changed the last name a bit so I did not copy it excatly. My second was named in a simular fashion. I took the last name of a book charature and gave him a new first name. I went Spanish for this guy. He is Named Baldomero De Montcada. Baldomero means brave and bold, since I saw this guy like a old school swordfighter. The rest of my pirate names I found on the internet searching for names of the pirate period 1600-1720. My third's name came from the names written in a ships log. He was a Scotsman. Forsy Balcorme. My fourth's insperation came from at worlds end. I wanted a chinese pirate. So I searched for historical chinese pirates. The name is a combo of real pirates. Cheng Po Zhi. I made a second account. Their names came to me the same as the others, but I wanted pirates from other parts of the world like the Pirate Lords. Nazzim Abu Qasim Sailed with Armand the Corsair. Rolivier L'Ollonais with Chevallis. I then remembered how many dutch pirates sailed the Caribbean and Piet Van Jander came to be. My last was a shifty lad Named Finnegan O'Finch, he hates the Navy he was press ganged into. I have a bio for all that ties them to the game my guild, and history. I may post that someday here when I have time. |
