Here's a little privateering trick if you have a light sloop and an enemy war galleon. (Not for NPC ships because they somehow have heatseeking cannon balls.)
If you stay close enough to the ships broasides, the cannon balls will sail harmlessly over you ship, possibly damaging your ship masts but not hull. you can use fury, lightning, and explosives, and you will never miss at such close range. |

It all depends on what your plundering goals are. For raiding flagships with crew I prefer the War Galleon for its extra cargo space. For general ship combat its hard to beat the firepower of the War Frigate. I've come to appreciate the speed and agility of the War Sloop.

TY for posting the pros and cons. Very interesting!
Personally I like the War Frigate the best for I can handle it better and there are cannons in the front. |
