For all you wondering why they took it out, here's some side information. When they took the ability out, they said that there was an "improvement" to the ship battle masts breaking system. They didn't say it just like I did, but it was phrased so you'd think, "Hmm... this sounds cool."

I have a strong feeling it was taken out because of the amount of physics needed for it. You have to consider the holes affecting gameplay, and maybe the developers didn't want to deal with that? It looked perfect during sea battles, and while it did cause lag, it wasn't enough for them to seriously think about taking it out. But they did. Why? I don't know, because they want the game to stink?

There's no reason the game can't be great, and have amazing ship battles, with holes in the sides of ships, half broken masts, etc...

This is DISNEY we're talking about. Whoever is limiting what the developers can do, and whoever is keeping them from getting better servers to handle lag NEEDS TO BE FIRED. The game is being held back DRASTICALLY because of this guy, or group of people.

I think that the reason shooting holes in sails was taking out was as part of the refocusing effort to re-launch game with a significantly lower minimum computer spec (to reach a broader audience). So, while I want the ability to shoot holes in sails reinstated, unfortunately, it is gone. One of many things that have been taken out of the game that I miss.
