Actually, I WAS RIGHT. They did update something. The Driftwood crab bug now does not work.

Trust me, I learned the glitch was fixed THE HARD WAY with 2 Lvl 9 Rock crabs against my lvl 7 lil guy.

Are you sure its fixed? (I haven't been able to get on yet) The glitch didn't work around the whole island for me when I definately knew it was working.
