1.) What is the best amount of Officers and Veterans in a Guild this size?

ETC hit the 500 wall with about 24-25 officers and about 12 Veterans at that time. And, often there has been a debate that maybe we have too many. Originally, my goal was around 10% of our members would be promoted. My main concern was are the officers we ELECTED doing their job eagerly and respectfully. While that number may sound low - compare the number of officers to the number of REGULAR players on during the day - NOT the total of pirates in the guild.

Be willing to DEMOTE inactive full officers down to veteran status and work to promote active veterans to full officer. It is a good motivation for them to be rewarded for their efforts. We don't have a recruiting quota in our guild, but if an officer is long absent or suddenly unable to be on for a while - the officers will vote to demote them for the time being. They understand that full promotion can always be reinstated.

Officers perform several duties: Maintain Order, Assist and Support Members, Improve Morale, Help Organize Events, Recruit New Members, Keep the GM Updated. As far as I'm concerned, Veterans have the same duties - just to a lesser degree.

2.) Is it wrong for me to remove members that have not been online for a long while...to make room for others?

Purging is a very sensible solution. We recently did a major housecleaning from 500 down to 408 last week. I asked each officer to go through the roster and give me 5-10 names of pirates they believed were not playing. As I compared their choices, I also looked for obvious signs of inactivity (very low Notoriety or skill levels, 0 Potion or 0 Fishing skill, basic clothes since the big update, etc.) and in some cases put up a list of names to be sure we just had not missed them.

3.) Can someone tell me where and how to subscribe to a forum such as this?
An established guild can ask to add a sub-forum here

Thanks Davy for your suggestions....I do have a three strikes you're out rule:
One-Talk to them about behavior or what ever it may be.
Two-Warning, last chance to prove their self.
Three-They are out.

I repeat to my guild often about guild rules...I just wish I could have more guild meetings. I am going to try and work harder on that. It can only happen on weekends.

Luckie, thank you very much for your warm welcome. It's great to have your support. You all are very knowledgeable on guild issues, looks like I'll be learning fron the best! And I am glad I took a chance and posted on this forum! : )

Dog, thanks for the link to the sub-forum. Oh Man, it can be a little intimidating looking at Batleths posting of guidelines. Don't know if I am quite ready for that yet. I think I will take it slow....lol

Eliza...your suggestions are great. 10% officers per amount of members would be around 50 as Davy mentioned. Sounds good to me! I am online 4-5 hours every evening and my officers inform me of problems or suggest promoting. And we all (officers & vets) decide that together. I like your aspect on the purging...never thought about checking potions, fishing and clothing....Very good idea!

Thanks All!
Later!

No one is Perfect

Bill The Butcher - The Butcher Loker Guild GM

Well, Raven, i say no one is perfect or born knowing all in the life, well everyone get experience some how, and the bad experiencies make us mature and also prepare us to lead better, so my advice about officer is this: I say u define a good training for officer, and the candidates must be supervisioned by top officers and put on fire, on test to prove themselves, and after a good time of recruit they will be aproved if they pass, the time will help us know them better how reliable they r and how ready they realy are.

About ppl not coming on or inactive on guild i say u should replace unless is a special situation like a mate that is on school, or work sometimes theres exceptions, others that dont log for long is fair enough u delet or will have a inactive guild beter replace for active ppl, and have like 100 on every day.

My note for u in schedule 1 - 20 is 20 u are a amazing GM, Nice, great heart 9 sometimes too much ) u done a great job and for real im considering join my guild with urs. What u r doing is a superguild in caribbean.

I totally agree, Raven is an amazing GM. With the advice given here and the support of the guild and forum, we are going to go far.
