If they want to make backstories, they should either not make it at all, or spend more time on it, and make a quest for it... This kind of "backstory" that everyone forgets in 2 days just seem pointless... If you want to make one... make one that makes sense.... and lasts...
Actually they wouldn't even need a backstory lol, just pull out some storyline from the quest and voila! Tension builds!

Hope it is El Dorado's sword and quest and I can speak Spanish fluently so parts of the quest and names I could understand that other people couldn't.
