The way to "give away" gold is by using a method called the Gold Transfer.

2 people sit down at a poker table (preferably the one of Padres) and you keep raising the amount of gold higher and higher until the NPC's fold. Then, you keep betting and betting until you decide that is enough gold and whoever is helping the pirate get the gold folds so that all the gold on the table goes to your friend.
