Yes, if a ship gets hit with Grape Shot the Repair Mini-game will shake making it difficult to repair, but not by much. (As well as if the Ship gets hit by Ramming Speed)

About the Sea Monsters, that has always been in the game. However there are no Sea Monsters, so I think its a little humor added to the description. Some people think it was a hint to the Kraken. It’s not.
