~Clueless~
Okay, so this has really been bugging me.
I have tried to play PoTC for a while, and never have succeeded. So heres the problem: I log into the homepage and click PLAY. The game begins to download, and after a seccond of swordfighting loaders, the screen freezes for a seccond, looking a bit... erm... duplicated, then Explorer minuses and a blank PoTC online link comes up on my desktop. When I go to click on it, it says: Cannot find .launcher1. Confused, i head to the start menu and look up the game under All Programs, and all the files in the folder are the Uninstall file and the Play file with completely blank .exe links. Does anyone know where I can fully install the game including the files nesseccary to play? Please tell me, I REALLY want to play this game! |

Do you use AVG antivirus? Some of what your experiencing sounds like what at least one release of AVG would do to the launcher exe file (it would quarantine it immediately). (false positive reading)
IF this is the case, then an update of AVG should solve the problem. |

Go here: http://download.piratesonline.com/en...PotC-setup.exe
Depending on your browser, you will get a dialog box asking you to run (or open) or save the file. Or not. Select SAVE. Once it's finished saving, find the PotC-setup.exe file you just downloaded, and run it. It will install the game. Once it's installed, the VERY FIRST TIME you log in, it will download a bunch of other stuff. Once that's complete you should be able to play. |

Im clueless what you said as my husband is my computer geek but I can tell you when I first joined my mouse would disconnect constantly from the game and only way to fix was reboot over and over. We had to get a different video card and i have not lost my mouse communcation once. (We had an ATI card and reading about problems it appears ATI is a big issue in this game) Like I said not sure if this is similar to your issues or not.

If you dont have a anti-virus program that could be a problem too. Might have a virus on your PC thats attacking your files.

Running an internet connected computer without an antivirus is like going after a Juggernaught in a light sloop. 1 million points for spunk but zero for smarts. AVG anitivrus is an excellent program and even better, it's free. Get it at www.grisoft.com

I don't run any sort of anti-virus or firewall on my Windows PC. I -do- have a nice hardware router that blocks all incoming connection attempts. I -don't- use Internet Explorer as my browser. I use Firefox. I -don't- use Outlook for my email. I use Thunderbird. I -don't- click on any random attachements that come up in my email. And even if I did, I use Thunderbird. It won't execute attachments. And I've never gotten infected with anything. |

Have your husband completely uninstall any potco program that you might have actually gotten. Then try reinstalling.
What kind of internet connection do you have? Dial up won't work well, if at all, for potco. DSL can handle most of it, but broadband is the best. |

Sounds like you are one computer saavy pirate. However for the typical folk out there some sort of protection is probably best. |

Sorry. I'm more computer file savvy than internet connection savvy. If DSL is Broadband, then why do I still have game issues? Nevermind. It's probably just the potco servers, like always. I don't know how much more I can 'dumb down' my system and not have lag or get dropped. |

I have discovered the problem!!!
The PotCO setup automaticly downloads the files into my Disney Online folder! From a previous incident with Toontown, that file got messed up somehow, and acts intangible! (I mean I can't rename it, open it, delete it, or overall affect it in any way) So, when the PotCO setup runs, the files are placed inside, but apparantly not even my computer can get into that file! 0_0 ! What I really need help for is how to either fix the file, or smash it into a billion pixels and leave no trace, then create a new folder and reinstall the game. Now, a little more help would be nice... plx?

Make sure you are logging into the system as a full administrator. Then I would do the obvious which you likely have already done, go into the Programs management in control panel and uninstall potco, and in this case sounds like toontown should be removed as well (unless of course its working properly). Assuming this is already done, and your unable to delete the folders it likely means either there is something the system sees as open or in use within the folder structure, and/or a permissions issue exists (make sure your an administrator). What specific messages are you given when you attempt to remove these files/folders manually? Now im not a Vista guru, is there a safe mode? If I didnt think there should be any permissions issues, in XP i'd try deleting the files/folder in safemode. |
