Plus, as you said on VMKF, Locke = LOST.

Without Locke, LOST wouldn't really be LOST...

Great episode but now I'm a little bit more confused. Trying to understand timelines... The Hanso Foundation was originally using the Island to "test things." Apparently the Island also has "natives" that live there as well. What intrigues me is the fact that with all the technology the posses, they are not able to stop these natives. One day, Ben snaps and decides to off everybody on the Hanso side. Fine, I get that, but now the natives have taken over the island and now became part of the new research team. How do you explain this to the board of directors at Hanso? Are they aware of what's going on? Do they realize that everybody is dead?

Now let's fast foward... the research now is about children being born on the island. True, I'm sure other experiments have be going on as well. With all the animals running around and all the stations, I'm sure there is still more explaining left to be done. Now, if I'm correct, the area where Desmond was at was also hit by Ben's virus thing. That would explain about "not" going outside because you can be infected. Makes sense, but wouldn't Ben know about the other stations? Why didn't he have scouts sent out to check them out?

Onto the crash of Oceanic Flight 183, it makes sense that "The Others" would like to investigate it, since a search party may lead to the island being discovered. What I never really understood is the way they did it. I mean, if I was going to capture 57 some odd people, instead of trying to "kidnap" them one at a time, I would reveal ourselves, trap them, and lock them all up. It's much better than trying to do all that hocus pocus and fooling them with costumes. Then again, it wouldn't be an interesting TV show.

With that said, it brings us to Jacob (btw, awesome picture). Who is he? What is he? Maybe he's part of that mysterious black smoke? Maybe he's the reason why people on the island heal faster? Maybe he's the reason why people keep seeing illusions (whispers in the woods, polar bears, Ben's mother, Jack's father, Eko's brother, bad dreams, Walt visions, etc..). Locke brought up a good point though. Nobody has ever seen Jacob. Why? How come on an island full of scientists, doctors, engineers, and logical thinkers, none of them have questioned the existence of Jacob? Speaking of mysterious things, whatever happened to Walt and Michael? I'm sure the others just didn't "let" them get away. Especially since Walt is very very special.

Finally, what role does Russo play in all this madness? Russo came on a ship with a crew, must have met Ben, and had Alex. Question is, how did this all happen?? Think about it: 1) How could have Russo had Alex on the island? 2) Why does Ben tell Alex that Russo is did when he knows she's alive and well?. 4) Since Ben knows about Russo, why does he leave her alone? Seems like it would be more beneficial to have her at the camp. 4) If Russo knows all about Ben, then she must know about the research that is taking place on the island. After all, she knew exactly where the camps where located and where some of the stations were. 5) Perhaps Russo was part of the "natives" that were originally stuck on the island, but where did they come from? If they were really stuck, how come nobody tried to rescue them or question about their existance.

Arrr!! So many questions and so little time left before the season finale.

So the finale was a really good episode, it had the season one magic like the episode before it, EXCEPT...the ending was completely horrible. I mean looking in retrospect, this ending was really bad. For season one, we had the hatch being opened. For season two, we had the hatch imploding/the other taking the crash-ees, and Penny finding the island, so to speak.

BUT, this season is pretty bad, in island terms. It ended too...good? Everything seemed to work right, the others lost, supposedly. Let's see, we have...

Desmond 1/2 a mile below the ocean.
Charlie dead.
Hurley, Sawyer, Juliet, Bernard, Jin, and Sayid on the beach after killing ten of the others, including Tom.
Jack, Kate, Danielle, Ben, and Niome are all out near the radio tower, and the satellite phone is now working.
We know that the boat isn't Penny's, so is Ben right?
The other others are nowhere to be found.

AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF,

We have a so-called flashback that was really a glimpse into the future? Who knows.

I personally think this ending could have been way better, maybe gone more in depth with The Looking Glass or a Niome flashback. Meh.

Have to agree with you here Schmoofy.

Absolutely brilliant writing. The finale was way better than I expected it to be and I am pretty sure this is one the best Lost episodes ever.

The ending was horrible. I found the "flash-forward" really interesting but the episode shouldn't have ended that way.

Also, Walt showing up and talking to John was extremely random and I don't think anyone saw that one coming.

If we look at what's been said this season, that's not really Walt, but the "monster". I wonder what Locke has with this monster?

This Jacob person is really starting to interest me, if it's actually real. I think he's a made up person by Ben to keep control over the other others, since we now know that the others and the Dharma Initiative are different. Just wow, the last two episodes had my attention but this ending completely ruined it all.

Whoever said that it was a flash foward? I think it was a flashback for fact that Jack mentioned his father. His father died in Australia, so it HAS to be a flashback. However, if it is a flashback, HOW does this meeting of Jack and Kate take place? Then again, in the first episode, Jack and Kate were barely introducing each other, which makes this indeed a Flash Forward. Neither scenario makes sense. I need to watch that episode again. I'm definetly missing something. After all, in the episode with the Room 23, one of the decrypted messages is "only fools are enslaved by time and space." Perhaps there's a bit of time travel that took place and history was rewrittent to make this a flashback. No matter how you look at it, it was still a good episode, and I agree that the ending was very horrible. Not suspenseful at all, just down right confusing.

Well, Smoop, check this page out ---> Click

We still don't know who died, though, or why Jack was so upset about it.

The rest of the stuff on this guy's page is pretty neat too.

Nah, I think it was a flash forward. There are too many things that point to that. Episode was good, they redeemed themselves on this one.

Hi!

Had to say I loved the final episode of season three. Also, it is a rare treat to have seen as many episodes here in Finland (season 3 finale part 2. was shown on January 17.) as people have seen in the US. Soon season 4 will start in the US and I have to start avoiding all Lost-discussions again, in order not to get any spoilers.

The idea of adding flashforwards to the series is very good.

I got LOST in 8:15 from iTunes for free and watched it....

I don't really understand why people like LOST so much... it's really sort of gross.

Ok, after this post I have vanish from this thread, I'm mortally afraid of spoilers. Luckily season 4 starts here in Finland too pretty soon - surprisingly soon really.

I don't think there are spoilers below, but be careful anyway, I don't want to ruin anything from anyone.

Anyway, I don't know about other people, but I love lost because it is, without a doubt, the television show with most substance. Granted, there are many things just put there for show, probably. But in the season 4 finale I was thrilled that someone called Minkowski answered the phone. (Nerdy explanation: Hermann Minkowski was a German mathematician after whom a formulation of the spacetime of special relativity is named Minkowski space. I thought this might imply that the island is some sort of a spacetime-anomaly.)

There is also many more things to make you think: Questions relating eg. to philosophy (free will, for example) and religion (Lockes faith) vs. science. Also it's packed with interesting literary references. In Dante's Divine Comedy The Mountain of Purgatory is on an island, the only island, on the southern hemisphere. Sounds kinda familiar... With all the other purgatory references it seems to me that the island of lost is also some sort of a metaphorical purgatory.

But the views above are mine, and so are very possibly false. I use the next line for the second time, apologies for that: I still haven't seen any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and thus really don't know Jack.
