Right there with you Moofers, did the exact same thing and the exact same thing happened.

I don't even understand why I can't even get in because I probably have most of what they said in that email. The RAM or MB may be a bit off, but not by much.

Hopefully they fix this bug this week.

I wasn't able to get in until I put in a new graphics card. Not sure what I had before, but it must have been the problem because I can now get in the game. I got a 256MB. I have much less lag, the graphics are good, basically everything runs much better. It was about $130 and pretty easy to install. Good luck

So, just to show how much I DON'T know about computers, I thought I had a Pentium 3 - well, I dragged my computer to Best Buy this morning with the specs they sent me and guess what? I don't have a pentium at all - I have in Ingtel Centrino Duo - which they told me was a dual processor and much faster than the Pentium 4 - go figure! They also told me all my other componets were faster/higher than they required... so, why can't I get on? They think maybe their server doesn't recognize my dual processor - so now I need to fill out another bug report and tell them to make some more adjustments - Anyway, I wanted to share this in case others also had a dual processor - oh, and Best Buy didn't charge me anything

I also have a Duel processor CPU. AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4400

I have no problems playing, just the normal server lag. How much Ram do you have?

I am running Dual processors as well and am able to play. Running Pentium 5 2.66GHz & 2.67 GHz with 1 Gig of ram with Windows XP media edition and a GeForce 7300 GS video card. Everything seems to be working properly. I have tried to install DirectX 9 - but I think I already have it. Also have cable connection. My biggest problem playing the game is long periods of freeze time. Still can't figure that out. Anyone have any suggestions? I have the latest video card drivers.

I really think the long freeze is server related. I know some of the other beta's I've been in they run software in the backgound that adds more stress to the server so that they can see how well the server can handle it. The server could also be in debug mode which can add stress.

did you install the directx file you downloaded? the download should be fast cuz its small file.
--
to check directx, run a directx diagnostic
go to START>RUN
type in "dxdiag"
click "ok"

should say "system information" at bottom needs to say "directX 9.0...."

mine says "directX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)"

--alot of betas will ask for a copy of the dxdiag file, disney doesnt because if you use the "bugreport" file (located in the PiratesOnline folder), it sends a copy of the game log files, u can read this info too

in the PiratesOnline folder, files called "launcher-(numbers)" open the most recent one.
this will list your hardware, windows version, dx info, between the start of the file, and
"trying to start spash and sefl path"

Ya'll know way more about computers than I do - all I know is they told me I meet the specs, and then some, layed out in the email I got - no clue how many gigs or ghz or whatever just know they had no reason to lie because I would have paid to update (yes, I'm desperate). My poor neice who also played on my account is going bonkers!

Thanks so much! Yes I do have the current version installed, but its nice to know how to figure that out. Ran all of the tests and everything seems to be running just fine. I have no clue what causes the severe freeze. I guess it could be server related, but no one else seems to be having freeze times as long as I am. I also can't seem to get my fps rate any higher than around 30.

Boy, it's comforting to know someone is getting a response from all the bug reports they send in. With all the dozens of reports I've sent in, I have yet to get a reply. I'm going on almost 2 weeks of not being able to log in. I'm not going to go out and buy a new graphics card just to play one game. Especially when I was able to play before.

I did get a very specific report - surprisingly! Here it is:

"Thank you for your recent bug report.

Pirates Online utilizes the latest 3-D features of current video cards. It's helpful to stay up to date with your video card's latest software drivers.

Have you recently applied the Windows Update "Intel Corporation - Video - Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family"? If so, please revert back to the one provided by Intel or an updated Intel manufactured version (Intel's Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family), as there may be issues with the Intel driver provided by Windows. You will have to manually uninstall the Microsoft's updated version as opposed to installing the new driver over the old version. For assistance with this procedure, you may have to contact your computer or video card manufacturer.

Thanks again for your email and we look forward to seeing you soon in Pirates of the Caribbean online."

So I went back to Best Buy this morning to have them do the computer stuff - Lord knows I'd mess something up! Tried reverting back - same microsoft error message - then they manually uninstalled it and installed the newest version (only one update since my computer is pretty new) and still no luck - so hopefully they will send me some other suggestion to try although the geek squad seems to think it's on their end. At any rate, I did finally get a personal type response which I was very happy with (even though it didn't work)

The Intel series graphics are extremely weak compared to standard graphic cards from Nvidia or ATI. The i945 series is designed with business apps in mind and simple game play. The i945 also shares your system memory which makes it very slow as well and at the same time robs your system of needed memory to run the game better. My advise to you is to buy a 7000 series or higher Nvidia card or a X series ATI card. Ask the geek squad to ensure your system has the proper slot for the card. It will solve a lot of problems and make your system compatible with 99.9% of everything out there. Good luck...
