Well, I'm not really talking about authenticity as much as I am talking about keeping it within reasonable fantasy. For example, in none of the three POTC movies did anybody at any time run around with a voodoo staff. Nor did I ever see any pirate with a voodoo doll. Captain Jack Sparrow killed Barbossa with a single pistol shot to the chest.
HOWEVER--Barbossa was brought back to life, the Kraken destroyed ships, and undead Pirates and Davey Jones' crew were all too real factors in the movies.
It's a little thing called a REASONABLE suspension of reality. It makes no sense that it should take 40 shots to kill a seabeard, and that a muzzle-loading pistol can be reloaded as if all it needed was to be re-****ed.
That's all I'm saying about THAT. As for the captain's bonus, although true that the Captain puts his/her ship at risk and must pay for the repairs, it's equally true that the ship is not REALLY at risk and the repairs rarely cost anywhere near what the Captain's bonus is.
Them's my thoughts. Rest easy mates--I don't believe Big D is reading my every word and making decisions based on what one old salt says.
And yes--I am the son of a son of a sailor....
