Have you tried this?
1) Go to Start | Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer. 2) Navigate to C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\PiratesOnline. 3) Double click on game_options.txt. 4) Make sure "state" has "working" on the line directly below it. If you see "attempted_working" change it to "working." 5) Under "api", please change the text from "default" to "pandadx9". 6) Save the file then launch the game. If you don't have this file on your computer, you will need to create one in the PiratesOnline directory. 1) Go to Start | Run. 2) Type "Notepad" in the Open input box then click OK. 3) Add the following text precisely as you see it below: state working api pandadx9 4) Click File | Save As 5) Name the file "game_options.txt" 6) Save the file to C:Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\PiratesOnline then launch the game. |

Since hes using Vista - you may need to use 'pandadx10' in place of where the 'pandadx9' is up top.
From previous posts, the x10 tends to work better sometimes on Vista machines (does NOT work on XP - stay with the x9 on XP though )

Chris, do you have a DirectX 10 video card? Vista reverts back to Direct X 9 settings if your video card isnt DirectX 10 compatible. It appears the nvidia GeForce 9700M GTS in question is Direct X 10 compatible. So Maximvs may be right about the using 'pandadx10', hince the "dx10" at the end.
However, with that said, I'm not sure how well POTCO holds up under a DirectX10 envirenment. Which may be why 'pandadx9' setting works better for some. I run XP with a DirectX 9 video card, so I cant experiment to see which works better. |

The setting "pandadx9" never worked on my WinXP. I had it set to "pandadx10" (since I have it updated through windows update) but the setting gets overwritten from game_options.txt (but not when I change "default" to the broken "pandadx9".)

I've never tried that. Usually when I get booted, its because I Alt+F4, which uh...really isnt a boot. I very rarely get booted

I have a similar problem with a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I have an ATI 2600 HD video card which gets seasick as soon as I go sailing. Particulary when I engage any AI ships, first bit of incoming received and the game freezes and boots me. New driver had no effect in resolving problem. Is the fact these issues are are ocurring on Toshibas co-incidence or a manufacturer incompatibility? I'm running Vista also (32 bit).

ping the disney servers and tell me how long the response takes (anything over 100 is why you're getting booted) if all are under 100 ill have to think about it

Hi Maximus
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it (needed pandax10) but unfortunately it hasn't resolved the problem. I can sail around ok but as soon as I engage other ships with cannon it freezes and crashes. back to the drawing board

Pirates Online is not a DX10 compatible game. So forcing "Pandadx10" will only cause more issue then help.
Uchi Deshi, if you have the most recent drivers for the video card from the laptop manufacturers website and you are still having this issue you may need to turn the graphics quality down in game. Being on a wireless connection can also cause issues while trying to sail. If you still have this issue it may be the X64 operating system. It doesn't react friendly with Pirates Online. |
