The crabs can usually be avoided. Its always best to have a friend along that distract the critters close by while you dig.

Sorry should have clarified. I realize that that pic is refering to the arm, but that dig spot can also be used for any other dig quest you have on Cangrejos.

If you need help to avoid dying, ASK. A busier server is probably your best bet if you're asking randoms for assistance, and who knows, you may make a new friend or two. May even find someone who needs help with the same quest.
