Most of the "places" and terminology used in the game is derived from actual events and places that took place in the pirating era. As others have stated, not only was Tortuga an actual destination but so was Port Royal.
Privateering was also a very real fact and which started the boom of many Pirates including Captain Morgan, Blackbeard, Blackbart and many more. The game is loosely based on actual things |
