PotCO vs PotBS
Pirates of the Caribbean Online vs Pirates of the Burning Sea
I have been looking into both games and i have to be honest PotBS looks alot better then PotCO. Now I have played PotBS and only limited (except for beta when I was unlimited) so it may seem I know more about PotBS. Pirates of the Burning Sea Pros: Tons of ships to choose from Great Graphics PvP designated zones 4 Nations to choose from (that includes pirate) Realistic (as in speed when against wind and with it, no spells, historically accurate for most things (if not all)) Mostly focused on sea battles (even tho theres lots of islands and land) Good guild system Allow users to submit content and if its accepted gets put in game ALOT of character customization (missions unlock new clothing and stuff ex. eye patches, wooden legs, parrots, dif logos for clothes) Can group up alot of people for fights PvE is loaded into a private battle so only group members can come in or other people if you call for help if your out numbered Players can sell or make things (Ex. I could make cannon balls for my guild (society) or even ships) Has its own economy (Auctions and free trade) Mature players and role players Can get stuff to make you or your ship stronger (stronger stern, dodging shoes, etc.) 3 different fighting styles (Florentine (short sword and dagger), Fencing (swords), Dirty Fighting (cutlass and pistols)) Cons: Gotta go out and buy it (lol) Pay To Play Sorta complex game style Takes VERY LONG time to go across the map Can get boring Simple sword fighting (It is like WoW where you just press a button but you can get alot of different kinds of moves and tactics) Pirates of the Caribbean Online Pros: Some not too serious players Fun sea battles Well written and known storyline Not bad graphics (but not great) VERY addicting game play Multiple people can be on a ship Can aim a cannon and fire different balls if your on a friends ship Cons: Not that great guild set-up Gotta be in clicking range of person to wisper them Very few ships ONLY pirate available Mainly PvE Gonna have free (VERY limited) paid (unlimited) servers (should all be free) Servers seem very laggy for some reason in limited Players gank your kills or just try to get rep off your hard work ALOT of little kids that play Seems to crash if you got to good of a computer? (I got 4-5 times the reqs and it black screens but I hear everything) Both: Ship boarding for sword fights Some kind of guild system Fun sea battles Now thats all i can think of right now. I've shown some people PotBS and they have the same thoughts as me. Put down what you think and please dont flame me. EDIT: Updated since I have bought and played PotBS

I also am thinking that pirates of the burning sea will be better than pirates of the caribbean. I have several reasons to support my decision. If you look at many different mmorpg comparison sites, potbs has a lot more hype than potco. The thing that majorly draws me away from potco is seeing what disney has done with Toontown. Toontown has been out for hmm about 8 years now?And still no significant additions? Now you might be think that cashbot hq is major but its not much when compared to other games. There have been no new expansions to Toontown and the game mechanics have remained the same and the game is just getting boring due to disney's lack of providing a "major" update. Im talking about a update where you could be 200 laff and there would be a whole new world, thats about where they should be at with about 8 years of production on Toontown. Take World of Warcraft for an example, I got bored of it and no longer played it, but Blizzard makes a major attempt at keeping players subscribed to it with patches about every month and the burning crusade expansion and the wrath of the lich king expansion comming soon, yet WoW has only been out for about 4 years since 2004. So previous experience with disney is drawing me away from it. I think PotBS has better graphics and since flying labs is a stand-alone company where they don't run several different services like disney does so I believe that they will be Similar to Blizzard, and be able to focus on their MMORPG. Now yes POTCO does a free limited version but I doubt it'll be worth playing, it'll be like toontown where you can play for a day and get so far that you must pay to progress. Im also going have to say that Disney's games are just too easy, you can max a toon in a week of non-stop play, its not very common to go sad at all because you can just alt+f4 in a vp/cfo/cj fight and get no punishment. I also HATE the fact and the fact I hate most, disney is aimed for the younger age group. I am older than 13 so I want something thats more hard-core and aimed for the older age group. Disney has also done terrible at giving their games replay value, yes you can create a new and try out that new gag that you didn't get with your other toon, but all toons are equal and its the same boring storyline(or is there a storyline of toontown?). You do the same tasks, you take the same path no matter what species or chose or anything, all toons are equal, theres no differrence in toons besides their looks. I also am looking for realistic graphics, NOT toontown graphics being put into a pirate game.
Now...My reply to your post: I agree with several of the things you said except that ship boarding has been implemented into POTBS so thats not a pro of POTCO. PVP is a major role of mmorpg's games these days and that is also another thing that POTCO lacks. Yes you can duel players but whats the point?Theres no fun in that. Toontown has NO pvp which is bad. Well after all of my negative thoughts of Disney...There is one major thing that I like about disney is their ability to get you hooked to the game quickly and make you want to be the best character in the game which keeps me playing toontown

thanks for agreeing with me and pointing out that PotBS has the ship boarding. Do you know if PotBS will be Pay to Play or just buy at retail and its free?

There hasn't been any details about the release date yet but it will be pay to play and you will most likely have to buy it at retail. Althought POTCO may not require you to buy from retail, I am still willing to pay for a retail game considering that it is retails probably because the game is so large. Now consider the download time it takes to get POTCO, doesn't take that long does it?

It is FORSURE going to be buy from retail and Pay 2 Play. But to me it seems worth it because game looks kick butt. They dont know tho if they will forsure use time cards (they most likely will tho to get more people who dont got credit cards)

![]() I agree with you there. I also like that I can jump onto Toontown or POTCO for just an hour and actually make some progress. Too many of the other big MMORPGs don't really provide that -- it often takes an hour just to assemble a group for a major quest. I don't usually have that kind of free time available. |

The one big difference I notice when I read their forums was the devs post to that forum and tell everyone whats goin on. Too bad Disney wont elt the devs do that too. Sure a good way for customer service. Instead we get generic emails :h-confused:

I have a con to add to PotBS, Sony have a hand in making it.
I played Sony's Star Wars Galaxies for 4 years and the quality was extremely poor, it started off well but then they grafted another system on top of the original (NGE) and reduced it to a fraction of it's former depth. Updates took many months to come out and despite having a test server to iron out bugs they still let no end get through to the live update. My all time favorite MMO company is Turbine who make Asheron's Call, updates every month without fail and bugs were dealt with fast.
