My second pirate, Goopy Water Coaster, will bring his guild of one to the meeting tomorrow .

If you wouldn't mind, my second pirate only has a light sloop (and is level one), so could I bring my first pirate to the blockade event (Captain Water Coaster)? He is a Rogue.

I liked the event and the idea behind this court even more... However I do see some flaws in this idea that can bring this down before it even starts.

1) I think one rep per guild will make this a lot faster, because I saw guilds just backing their own views and then rooting for themselves.
2) Everyone present was following the 1st and 2nd Code... then as it came time to finish it became a brawl. Staffs, guns, and bombs were all about.
3) The one reason that concerns me deeply is the fact that some guilds ( don't know who and don't care why) either don't like each other or don't trust each other. Everyone thinks they will be crossed... just like pirates yes. But it will defeat the purpose of this Court. Events like SvS should be done with teams with members of different guilds and randomly selected. This will at least try to heal those wounds. And create friendships and brotherhood between each other. We are stronger in group. Divide and Conquer... anyone? Look at the regatta or this blockade. How impressive were those sites.

I really think that this is a great idea. I believe that TOGETHER we can accomplish it.

I agree with Skirata. Except I think these things need to be discussed outside of the game. First off the Filtering system is going to make real discussions difficult as they filter the silliest of stuff sometimes (oh who am i kidding, a lot of times). Also it is not always possible for every representative to be present at the meetings due to real life issues.

As soon as events were mentioned we had certain people getting really defensive and talking about cheating etc. While this is a valid concern, it is one that can be worked out if we lay out a lot of options and then work through them until a solution is found. Almost every option layed out was met with negativity from some source or another before it was even given a chance. How do we know that randomly assigning ppl to different ships isn't going to keep anyone from cheating? We haven't tried it yet. Once we do and if we find it doesn't work, then we try something else.

I do realize that some guilds that have joined this have a history of animosity and distrust. If those guilds have joined this court as a means to get at each other and continue that animosity they maybe need to just sit out. Because it sounds to me this was meant to be a guild bonding experience. I also believe that if guilds find they just cannot work together and have fun with this in the lighthearted manner it is meant to be experienced, they should back out and not ruin the fun for everyone else. If the problems stem from individual pirates, well the guild they belong to should be held accountable for their actions.

There are a lot of solutions that could be had for many of the concerns that will come up in the court. We need to try these solutions out and have patience with it until the right one is found. We don't need a bunch of ppl shouting right off that "that's not going to work" until we actually do discover that Hey, that didn't work.

I know that I am not a part of this, but may I make a few suggestions?

1) Instead of trying to hold meetings in game to discuss your business, lay out your rules, etc., why don't you all use a different chat system? irc, or even Yahoo chat have the ability to hold group, or conference chat. That way, you don't have to tie up a server or worry about chat filtering. It may be a problem if some of your representatives can't or aren't allowed to use outside chat systems, but it is, afterall, just a suggestion.
2) I would heartily agree that you need to have your rules in place before you go much further. A couple of items to consider would be the processes involved in allowing new membership, and in how to remove someone if need be.
3) If one of your goals is to unite the guilds for common fun events, then you should consider a rule that everyone from a single guild be split apart. Otherwise, it will turn into a competition.
4) If you are seeking competition, then you need to consider the size of each individual guild or alliance.
5) Don't totally give up on your original concept of "Pirate Lords". (Maybe the title isn't the right one to use, Alliance Leaders, or Court Advocates, maybe?) But any group that is going to be worth anything and last does need some leadership. Whether it is elected, appointed, or just assumed.

Remember, it's just a game! Good Luck and Have fun.

Last nights suggested ground rules.

I am Maya Mara, I took the floor last night to try to further establish some ground rules that we could all trust in to make a smoother event, and yes I found it difficult and the outcome wasnt conclusive but it raised the point of change.
Those that harbour distrust and have 'issues' with certain others may feel just in their argument and that it is with good reason that those anymosities exist. We do have a rich history of svs developing, its hard for some to put asside old issues BUT the very fact we are all there and giving these events the time of day shows that we all feel change is due, and, again as we all know change will happen regardless, it makes good sense that we are all influential in that change.
We can all sit on the old 'issues' we have with each other, we can all succumb yet again to the intimidation of accusations of cheating and glitching, and yes indeed some can be audacious enough to attempt to use them in the event, BUT we have to make a conscious effort to do our part in making a change that IS going to happen regardless of whether it is resisted or not.
If you want a clean game you have to play a clean game, if you want a drama free one you have to not enter into moments of drama, if you want to be trusted you have to make a leap of faith and show trust in others, that may start here with Roxanna and the concept of what she is trying to achieve, if you want to establish an event where these issues are left aside, even if its only for the duration of the event it has to come from each and every one of us.

That is not to say that how we arrived at our individual standings in the game should be dismissed either, each guild has its own identity and strengths those differences are very important and what makes any competetive event successful.

Thankyou Skirata and the rest of you for your attendance at the meet and event and for your comments here. I also agree with Skirata on all points made although I would like to see us all act better on trust before we offer out of game contact with each other.

Maya

Kind of sad I was unable to be there, but two of my most trusted officers were in attendance and were NOT extremely optimistic about all the bickering.

Giving people the title of Lord may be too much to ask.

The original Brethren of the Coast was assembled to make sure ALL benefited. This group was intended to promote the guild 'experience'. Some can take that as having positive competition or rivalry and others take it as cooperative efforts for all to benefit, obviously some will always find the negative or reason to suspect deception.

Unfortunately, there are legitimate reasons for suspicion as some take their PvP rivalries to a more intense level. Perhaps such direct PvP and SvS activities should be not currently be considered. Personally, I have no issue with ETC members enjoying direct competition but I have encountered so many cheats and bad sports in my own experiences as too limit my desire to do them anymore.

But, in the context of the Brethren - those squabbles need to stop at the door. And if some guilds have the goal of destroying other organizations - they should not be welcome.

I like the idea of a combo - maybe a chat outside the game - using one of the resources listed above - so we can discuss and go over details. Then the final say is in the game...

It was way too fun to see everyone together.

I also think that two members of each guild is a good idea.

See ya'll later

Update!!!

YO HO! Me Mateys of the Brethren Court!!!

First and foremost a BIG THANK YOU! to all the mates that attened last week's meeting and event. The turnout was amazing! Never before has a line ships so long been assmembled on the high seas, and altough we did not quite make the gap, (we fell about 20 ships short of reaching the shores of Cuba from Tortuga) nevertheless, it was a feat of outstanding proportions!

STILL WAITING FOR SOMEBODY TO UPLOAD A SCREEN SHOT OF THE EVENT PLEASE!!!

MOTIONS PASSED ON THE FLOOR:

2ND LAW OF PIRATA CODEX (the code) OF THE BRETHREN COURT PASSED WITH OVERWHELMING MAJORITY: NO WEAPONS SHALL BE DRAWN WHILST THE MEETING OF THE BRETHREN COURT. VIOLATERS WILL BE GIVIN WARNING THEN ASKED TO LEAVE IF FURTHER DISRUPTIONS CONTINUE. GUILD CONSEQUENCES APPLY.

AS TO ALL THE COMMENTS REGUARDING LAST WEEK'S MEETING!

THIS is what I'm talking about!!! It is such an honor to read all of the wonderful feedback and great suggestions we are receiving in this post! It shows that a lot of you mates have your thinking caps on and this is EXACTLY the intent of this Court. The cry for change is obvious! By what we see here, and what we hear in the meeting (aside from all of the dispute and defensive posturing), what work that is being done is happening in the spirit of Brethrenhood!

It is a challenge for us ALL to work together for the benefit of the greater good. In a MMORPG there are Gamers and there are Role Players. Mixing the two has always been like mixing water and oil, due to the simple fact of preference.
POTCO is one of the only games i've seen thus far where the simplicity of the game play compliments the aspect of Role Play very well. (Bravo Disney!)

To be fair to all, and handle situations in a mature and responsible manner which is fair to ALL involved, A Steering Comittee of some sort will be necessary to insure the smooth and successful runnings of Events, moreso, events that are competition based.

CONFLICTS BETWEEN GUILDS NEED TO BE LEFT AT THE DOOR BY ORDER OF ALL GUILD MASTERS PARTICIPATING IN THE COURT!!!

ITS SIMPLE FOLKS, THIS CONCEPT IS BY PARTICIPATION ONLY SO LONG AS YE BE RESPECTING THE LAWS OF THE COURT!!!

GUILD MEMBERS THAT PARTICIPATE IN ANY EVENT ARE EXPECTED TO RESPECT THE CODE. NOT DOING SO NOT ONLY BRINGS SHAME UPON YOURSELF, BUT YOUR GUILD, YOUR GUILD MASTER, AND THE ENTIRE COURT AS WELL.

WE ARE NOT DOING THIS TO BABYSIT OR NURTURE FEELINGS OF HOSTILITY TOWARDS ONE ANOTHER!!!

MATES NOT REPSPECTING THE CODE WILL BE SUBJECT TO REPREMAND BY THEIR GUILD MASTERS, INCLUDING DEMOTION, SUSPENSION FROM GUILD, OR BAN FROM GUILD DEPENDING ON THE SEVERITY OF DISRUPTIONS.

GUILD MASTERS WHO DO NOT DISCIPLINE THEIR GUILD MATES CAUSING DISRUPTIONS WILL BE SUBJECT TO A VOTE BAN OUT OF THE BRETHREN COURT AND WILL NO LONGER BE WELCOME AT EVENTS OR MEETINGS UNTIL SUCH ACTION IS TAKEN TO PROVE THEMSELVES WILLING TO FOLLOW THE CODE OF THE COURT. AT WHICH POINT A VOTE OF GUILDMASTERS WILL DETERMINE IF THE GUILD IS ALLOWED BACK IN.

SO SAYS I!

As for a combo communications network. I like the idea in principle, but, it was brought up that not all guild masters would be able or willing to use outside game communication. That is the other purpose for this forum thread. Granted it is not an instant messenger system or real time communication, however it does give us a week inbetween IN GAME COURT Meetings to discuss and banter about matters discussed on the floor at the Meetings. I ENCOURAGE ALL OF YOU GUILD MASTERS OUT THERE TO BE POSTING YOUR COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS ON MATTERS CONCERNING THE COURT IN THIS THREAD UNTIL A MORE VIABLE MEANS OF COMMUNICATION CAN BE ACCESSED, ASIDE FROM IN GAME COMMUNICATION.

The In Game meetings is a great show of support for the ideas we be promoting here within.

FOR THE TIME BEING, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE HAS BEEN POSTED, WE SHALL HOLD MEETINGS AND EVENTS EVERY WEDNESDAY, 7 PM CENTRAL, TO GET MATES USED TO THE IDEA OF SCHEDULED EVENT AND MEETING DAYS.

2 MATES PER GUILD FOR THE MEETING PLZ! GUILD MASTER + 1 OFFICER OR SPEAKER. 2 MATES ONLY PER GUILD PLZ! ENFORCE THIS WITH YOUR GUILD MATES THAT TEND TO POP IN AND ASK WHAT'S GOING ON DURING THE MIDDLE OF A MEETING.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RESPECT THE SPEAKER HOLDING THE FLOOR PRESENTING THEIR IDEAS, SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS. DO NOT! I REPEAT! DO NOT SIMPLY BUTT IN WITH AN OBJECTION. WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE CALLED UPON AND RECOGNIZED BY THE HOST OF THE MEETING TO TAKE THE FLOOR WITH YOUR COUNTER-STATEMENT. THE MEETING WILL GO MUCH FASTER THIS WAY IF ORDER IS MAINTAINED TO A PIRATES STANDARDS, AND NOT A GROUP OF MONKEYS.

As for the subject of Pirate Lord. It would appear that such a title is a bit premature, if not already reserved in a way it would seem for "Founders" that were the first to play the game. We do not wish to alienate the powers of imagination that some mates could bring to the table, but may be cut out, since they do not hold a title such as "Pirate Lord". It is for this reason, and has been discussed by several of the guild masters, that titles of esteem be earned by badges of effort. WE WANT YOU! TO VOLUNTEER! YOUR TIME AND IDEAS to create the Steering Committee that will plan, organize, and drive these MASS player events. Lets face it, some mates just want to have fun and play the events and not get bored down with the logistics of planning. On the other hand, there are those with a driving passion to help out in any way they can, and those be the mates we looking for on the Steering Committee (that's just the name be given it for now, we can debate the name later lol).

These would be the mates needing a good line of communication both in game, and in THIS forum! until such a ways of IM can be established. Contact me in game, send me a PM on the forum, or leave a reply here in this thread stating your wish to HELP out! Be part of the pirate machine that be driving towards making a difference!
