I believe we should customize cannon types and their placements, add more realistic sail and hull protection methods, New realistic sails, guild flags, customizable flags, ready made flags, various designs around and in the ships, hull enlargement and resizing, figureheads ( magical as well ), customizable storage for ammo, custom cabins with mini games and fleet/crew management, largely explorable ship, offloading powder kegs, goods storage ( where we actually take goods from ships and actually move it with 'Shift' ), NPC/Player crew for sail, rudder and broadside management ( broadsides though will have to be NPC ), special weapons ( Harpoons, extra muskets for fending off enemy monsters, pirates, Navy, etc., repair-ability, Plank walking ( for discipline ), Crew takeover if captain is inadequate ( decided by vote, also known as Mutiny ), various tacking and speed measures, customizable wood for ship ( interiors and exteriors ), ship naming personal custom-ability ( with moderation ), special features such as oars in case of mast breakdown, customizable broadsides, gunpowder caches, lanterns, etc. ( for night and all ), crows nest and finally the ability to climb up ropes and set ropes and pull masts down in case of weather. This is what should come with Ship Customization, and i'd be happy if Disney has more on its mind.
On to the main topic, no I don't believe we should start from scratch for the ship. We should make use of existing models from which we remodel it to our gain. We should also start of by pirating and ships ( including the war ones ) by working as a merchant or Navy officer as a starter before we actually become pirates. On rare occasions if we have enough money we should be able to buy warships... |

As far as cannon placement goes I'm all for it,especially if sloop and war sloop cabins can be removed in favor of making a less-hull-to-hit vessel with 4-6 extra guns,a real SvS win-win.
![]() A 360 gun on the crow's nest would be amazing but simply crazy to the extreme,I think I may die if I actually saw it,rofl. But if anyone is going to do it that would be Disney. I would like to see some ship advancements that aline with historical accuracy when possible, perhaps little one or half-pound swivel guns. Why not actually be able to go below you ship's deck depending on ship class and fire a gun down there? Why not be able to climb up by the crow's nest like it showed in that original trailer for POTCO back when it was launched? A captain should really have a cabin he can relax in sometime.... Why not have player packed port battles where certain ship types and customizations rule the fighting fleet carnage? Some may say we already have that with privateering....these ship in POTCO may just travel far too fast for such a port battle, sort of a pity but this isn't POTBS....makes me want to sigh. ![]() If Disney is going to make Ship Customization then they need to do it right,we could wait two or more years. I think many people are right,Disney seems to launch new content slower than many MMOs,perhaps it's becasue Disney is a Film and Television company, not a gaming centered one.Who knows the size of their staff,I suggest someone interviews POTCO staff in a long to run relationship sometime,I've seen it done with another forum and a large European based company known to some as TLC,they were not a sole gaming company either.... |

Of course total customization is a beautiful pipe dream on paper...
But, you can offer a limit choice range and still get some creative results. Asking for cannon placement is likely not going to happen. The developers have to create models and objects for the various hull classes. Just having a couple more hull types would make a huge difference. Different gun types would be a good offering. The real issue with total ship customizing like that is SvS. It would become WAAAY too unbalanced as the rich and powerful would simply dominate. I could also never imagine an option to paint your ship, but I could see a variety of color schemes offered. After all, 3d models have 'skins' wrapped around them and you just make multiple skins for each class of ship. You combine 2 or 3 new hull types, a few sail types and colors, various hull skins and cannon types - that creates a huge variety. Creating a Captain's Quarters is easy enough. When you go to the Dinghy, it could have a Captain's Quarter's option. You tp to your special room where you can have your clothes wardrobe, collected treasures on display, etc. When you exit, you end up back at the dinghy menu. The issue is developing a new element to add to every player in their database. But, once you establish a system, it should be easy to add on to it. Last edited by Sarah; 03-10-2010 at 08:28 PM.. |

well how is cannon placement HARD to do.. just give us our hulls and give us a number of cannons and let us go wild on it... golly... doesnt seem too hard...
you gotta let the pirates have creativity!!!!! |

Sorry for a late post, but Ship Customization is a extremely great idea. We should have a Ship Builder program for importing hulls from Google SketchUp, DelftShip, 3ds Max, etc., and maybe the possibility of spending no gold to build one, even the Basic Member Accesses can build one in their image.
