I don't understand why they don't update individual servers. "Abassa is going down in 5 minutes. Please switch to Andaba now." (Or something.) They don't change the underlying data structures of what pirate skills or attributes there are, so the individual game servers just shouldn't matter. But, evidently they do, so I guess it must be something not obvious to me.
On the other hand, the forced breaks are good reminders that I'm playing too much. |

It's mainly because of the way they have it set up. With games like WoW, where the servers are totally seperated, it's possible to shut one down without closing the others since it is not linked and is in turn a totally different file than the rest.
However in the case of POTCO, all of the oceans are linked together and thus act as one big file within the PiratesOnline file, meaning that you could not do that.

In my opinion they should do a reset every night or even twice a day to force logouts on those people that will play for a bit and then leave fore countless number of hours or even the night and then it causes lag. I've started playing in the morning and sometimes it looks like a mob of sleeping pirates scattered around the ports. I can't imagine that many people falling asleep at their computers.

Maintenance is a funny thing. Its not always done on all servers.
I was playing the game with a friend last night pretty late. We'd received no notices, were well past the time it would have been taken down, but were playing and having fun. Saw other pirates about. Then I had to call it a night, logged out, and saw a notice indicating pirates had been closed for about 30 minutes already and wouldnt open for another hour or so. I couldnt get back in, but apparently had just been playing on a server uneffected by the "maintenance". |
