I thought it was just some fun thing to have under my name but another person mentioned to me that guilds backed up their members?? Sort of like having extra people in one's corner in the game. And I've read posts on here where you guys talk about going out fighting with guild members. Could someone explain them to me please?

Well, there are good guilds, and not so good guilds. In my experience, it's usually the not so good ones that will do blind invites, and then pretty much leave you on your own...
Anyway, don't worry about those - check out some of the guilds that are here. This is where I met the Wenches, and I've had a great time with them.
