Wink What gives with Guilds?

I apologize to moderation if this is the wrong forum.

My second day playing someone asked if I wanted to join a guild. I was very new, still feeling my way around, and joined. They haven't spoken to me since, and in fact no one from my guild ever seems to be online except me.

Now I'm STILL very new to the game.. but what gives with the guilds? What is the purpose of them? I thought it was just some fun thing to have under my name but another person mentioned to me that guilds backed up their members?? Sort of like having extra people in one's corner in the game. And I've read posts on here where you guys talk about going out fighting with guild members. Could someone explain them to me please?

Thanks!

Guilds are for different reasons. Black Bart's Krewe for example has a mission to help pirates within or outside of the guild. Other guilds have different reasons, like just to get the guildmaster in a better position. Also, guilds have different recruiting rules. Some guilds just accept any pirate new or old. Others are exclusive, as only level 30+ pirates can join (for example). Some guilds have barely any members, when others have tons. A lot of guilds are created and are dropped every day, so you may be stuck with an inactive guild.

I don't know if this helped your understanding of guilds, but I hope it did.

ya know, i must say. when i started out, the guild i was with did little to help as a newbie. and starting out you need all the help you can get. i have seen people come and go with this game due to lack of interest from guild mates etc. takes the fun out of the game as it is intended. guilds that are set up have different rules and varies from one to the next. i am sorry that you starting out have not had a good experience.

I would recommend taking a look at the guilds in thsi forum and seeing if any of them catch yer eye. If so, perhaps ye should be looking to change yer guild....

A good guild can really expand the enjoyment of the game.

Well, there are good guilds, and not so good guilds. In my experience, it's usually the not so good ones that will do blind invites, and then pretty much leave you on your own...

Anyway, don't worry about those - check out some of the guilds that are here. This is where I met the Wenches, and I've had a great time with them.

I do random invites, but I personally think I am a member [Officer] of a wonderful guild..

We help members in and out of our guild.

We have implemented a "Hello, Guild. Anyone need help?" Policy amongst the officers and GuildMaster so that everyone in the guild will know that they can ask for help and will get it.

Our guild is more than people who have a guildname under their name, we are more than someone you see in a list, we are more than friends, we are a family..

We've even started doing raids and guild sailing [non-svs so far]..

We are trying to involve everyone so that everyone advances and enjoys the game.

As mentioned, check out the guilds on this site, we're all pretty active. As of late, we've even teamed up to help each other's guilds in battles and quests (btw Bart, way fun BB 's last night, that was a blast!)
So, read the threads, and see if one seems to be a fit for you.

You'll find a good guild if you look about.

Newer pirates all want to start thier own guild, and they often start and die in the first 60 minutes they are thought up.

Look around get to know some people here on the board, and you'll probably find one of the larger more accomodating guilds represented here to be more suited for you.

So I've been thinking about your responses.. and doing a bit of reading on the guilds on this board..

Maybe I just should be guildless. This is NOT an insult to the guilds listed here- you guys all sound like you have a BLAST. But to be honest, I have 2 kids and a dh also, and I just can't commit to be on POTCO at specified times or x-hrs per week. Usually I'm here super late at night lol. And I wouldn't want to do a disservice to the wonderful guild that took me in =(.

Ah well.

You wouldn't be the first pirate to go solo

Guilds though are good for: a) friends Its good to come on and while working away at something be able to chat away. Makes them tedious tasks much easier to endure - and theres many of those b) quests A few quests are a hassle to do alone (as a young pirate - getting the Flytrap or the Boxes at Fort Charles for the voodoo doll - later in your pirates life getting Padres Teleport and Gernades / Staff is much easier with an actvive Guild).

Make time that you play one of your requirements when looking through the list - obviously if the guild wants players on at a specific time everyday its not the guild for you Many though have members across the globe so some members never even see each other (for example - one guy in my guild is in Germany, others are in California - I'm in the middle - so I've seen them both but they have only ever met each other once, maybe twice )

Well Meghan, it's fine if you want to be guild-less. You run into those every now and again. However, I find a good guild really is what makes the difference in this game.

But not every guild has those requirements. I have a member in a different country that I rarely see--either on late at night or early mornings only. That's okay though--when she's on and others are on she has somebody to help her or support or--or just somebody to talk to when the rest of POTCO is all quiet servers.

I also have kids, a wife, a job, and a life outside the game. I find that when I'm on I enjoy the game much more when my guildies are there than when I'm all by my lonesome.

So I guess what I'm saying is, don't just decide to go guild-less because you think you would be a burden, or a disappointment to the guild. It's true that some guilds have tie and hours requirements, but not all.

Good luck in your hunt (if yer still huntin', that is).

Heya Meghan, welcome to the addiction .) Just my 2 cents worth, but personally I love being in a guild. There have been some days where I have been so busy chatting and hangin out that I didn't get too much done.

* Gasp! *

Some of the best belly laughs I have had in a long time come from guild chat. I love that I can help out my friends. I also know that there are people out there that have my back, and don't mind all my typos. More hands make lighter work and all that. It is also OK to do things solo too, even when you are in a guild. I agree, definitely check out the guilds here that have their own forums.

Find a comfortable chair, dim the lights and channel Goldilocks.........I am sure you will find one that is juuusssttt riggghhttt. Don't worry about the time zones. I am in Hawaii, and get to play with the night owls on the mainland and the early birds in Australia.

Guilds are usually formed by an inner circle of friends (much like the guild i am in) and then expands outward towards other players in the game. Usually when somebody new joins the guild he or she is not given much attention if he or she is not within that circle of friends (luckily i am, yet i still am not an officer!! oh, sorry this isnt about me. anyway) I suggest you stay within a guild for a few days. If nobody or very little people talk to you, join another. But the best bet is to join a friends guild, that way, you have a guild under your name, and you feel comfortable with it! And make sure to keep an eye out for Delmaria (Del) Darkskull!
