I do agree with your idea of it using on of their tonics. So I can see you are thinking about it, but I still don't see why a tonic seems to be worth more than gold to some of you.

Id like to add my two cents -
I stood last night with my lvl 40 pirate at Port Fort for quite a while. There were low levels attacking the 'patio' baddies, and OVER AND OVER the same lower levels would say in local "heal" or "tonic" - I was in a crew with my other level 40 partner, and was not hitting enemies. HOWEVER - I have never been one to heal when its demanded of me, as Im BIG on manners. Ask me. Don't tell me. And, one thing I noticed, was it was the SAME people NOT paying attention then to levels due to the ease of the 'revive' feature. Over and over nearby pirates were repeatedly reviving the SAME people - who then would tell others THEY were out of tonics. As a note - since revive started, and some time before that - we don't keep tonics on hand since we don't use em. I last was using them for a visual staff glitch, and never restocked. BUT, I dont think Id be using them randomly anyways. I think there is something to letting the low levels learn what they CAN and CANNOT attack without a sure-thing nearby bailout when they get knocked out. It would be different if the tonics came from their own stock - but I think people should not EXPECT a nearby pirate to heal, OR to tonic. (And, thats exactly HOW they say it "heal" not 'Please heal?' before they attack an enemy - which is what I would do. I would ask prior to attacking - 'Would you mind covering me? I need one of those guys - I appreciate it!' And yeah, I said it exactly that way! LOL) While Disney is mentioning the tonics/crew issue, I wish they would remind players to use some manners, and REQUEST help - not demand it. If we get a tsk tsk for this, many could use a tsk tsk for THAT. As mean as many might think it is, I simply won't help revive or heal a players pirate who I think needs a lesson in manners. Well, I won't revive anyways - since I don't keep tonics on hand. My pet peeve is people EXPECTING help, not asking for it. |

I am not defending the revive system but I Am trying to get people to stop using things as an excuse to yell at disney. I get what you are saying nelly, but that is not the issue. the issue is people faking help. not people demanding it. I do not think people should demand help either.

Yeah, but I think revive brings out the worst in everyone. Both those wanting to use it, and those not helping.
Overall, I think it was a bad idea to bring this into the game. |

Its the way Disney approachs things at times that seem not to help their situation, but actually "throw gas on the fire" so to speak. Although I agree with their message, I feel that they failed to see (or represent) both sides of the dubloon here, and remind these pirates having problems to be polite, etc. When your controlling a multilane highway... like Disney is, you dont focus on one lane. Bless Disney overall though, seems they are constantly trying to improve the game, I just dont agree with all their actions. I did see the statement as humorous, from the fact they published the comment as it stands. Added: The reason I took the standpoint of the other side of the coin with their statement is that I have not witnessed what they were speaking against in a single instance, but have seen the other side of the coin, pirates taking advantage of others begging to be revived, where common sense would dictate they should not have been in the first place. I just never saw it important enough to file any official complaints on. I simply say im out of tonics after the one courtesy revive. |

Nelly, I think the revive option is great! And it didn't take me too long to figure the thing out, it was very simple, just like taking a hold of the cannon or the wheel
I love the fact that Disney is giving us these little updates and puts adds to the game. Why do people have to be so negative all the time? Why do you play the game if you don't like it..? Doesn't really make sense to me ![]() What comes to these pirates not reviving when they offer it, it's just wrong in my mind.. Does it feel good to bully lower level pirates? I revive when i have the option, though i don't recommend anyone to tp to Tormenta with me if they are level 20 or under. Well sometimes it's fun too! |

I agree with you but I think you might be a little off the mark here... Some of the ferocity might just be born of frustration. I, for one, am extremely frustrated with Pirates online. There is simply nothing left to do. I used to log on to chat and goof off with the guild but the once noble guild I belong to has died on the vine. I ask why and the answer is ALWAYS the same. "Nothing left to do..." But I am, above all, a patient pirate. I wait for new content, new events, anything to give it a go one more day. I log on at least once a week, run around in circles, take noobs sailing for gold and heal complete strangers. And yes...I will revive someone I don't even know at least once. Who cares. It's why I carry 15 tonics now. Revive uses the weakest one. Anyway, if the dev news can't do any better than revive trickery, it might be a tad frustrating to some pirates... Just an opinion. |

Long paying customers indeed have a 'right' to complain, and be heard. Many of us have been here well over a year, and our money is as good, if not more consistent, than new players.
Disney should indeed be focusing on new players, BUT - the priority SHOULD be with long term playability. After all, when new pirates master - they join the nothing to do club, and many leave. We complain because we know what the game COULD be, and know how fun it CAN be - but often, long term players are ignored, disregarded, forgotten. On my friends list - I cant tell you how many of those people stopped playing due to lack of content. Most of the 'old school' pirates are gone, and dont play any longer. Why? Disney's lack of updating the game with usable content. Instead, we got 'redesigned islands', GM events, and 'revive'. Most of us would have been a little happier with an update like, more closet space, larger money cap, more ship choices. ANYTHING to give us something to do! HIGHER NOTOR! At least. More weapons levels! Grinding weapons isnt much, but its SOMETHING. Longterm players are feeling disregarded. Disney could care less if we have nothing to do - which is a SERIOUS issue - since eventually most new players WILL master, and then get bored. I'll just keep on doing what I do. Looking for fun places to explore, watching new people level, kill some things occasionally, and, not bother buying tonics. =) I don't pay them a membership fee to spend my time playing babysitting the lower level pirates they are catering to with new 'band-aid content' and then get whined to about it via 'POTCO News'. (Be nice! You're more experienced!) If they want me to help by buying them tonics, give me a higher gold cap, and cheaper tonic prices if you are using them to revive. Otherwise, they're on their own since I don't buy em anyways. And on that note - when they start adding things for higher levels to do, maybe they will stop messing with low levels for fun. LOL |

Events... the GMs should be paid Disney staff and not the developers, because if they're the developers the events waste their time. Why have they been working on more events than content? Are there more players out there that want events and not content? When my subscription needs to be renewed I will pay one more time, but if nothing decent comes, I'll go basic. Why waste my money if they have done nothing for us higher level players? There's the enemy aggression changes, which I find useless when doing anything. They change enemy locations, again, useless. Have they added in new islands, the second story quest, or any decent content to keep us busy? If you make a crew with a random person who says they'll revive you, don't expect them to. You can't just go up to a random person and buddy up, thinking they'll do what they say. You do not know this person enough to trust them. If you have a situation like this it is your fault. Not everyone in pirates is honest, and it's worse in the real world. Quote:
This news is the worst I've ever heard from an online game. Since 2003, toontown has given its' players some news to keep us busy, but not as absurd as this. The revive system does not need to be in the game, and telling someone they have to use it to help new players is ridiculous. |

I am very glad more of you see it openly now. Thanks. I hope no one thinks of me as the one who HAS to go against everyone else in what seems like a stupid battle to fight, but sometimes people just Jump the Wagon and that is not right. I feel that sometimes people let other things get to them and some people need to say whats on their mind, not whats on their buddys mind.

There are so many good points made throughout this thread... and yes I initially thought the Disney announcement was funny.
I haven't seen the rudeness that Davy Gunflint has seen, but I can imagine it happening just as rude behavior and cheating exist in other aspects of the game. Just stand on Abassa when people are challenging each other to PVP. I have seen lower level pirates in areas I would never have dreamed of taking my lower level toons. And if I accidentally ended up in those places, I learned how to stealthily get my butt outta there. And if I ended up in jail, big deal. It's not like your character really dies and you have to start over, so no real loss. It is rude of people to demand saving. I have helped strangers if they came to me and said, "Hey, i'm having a problem defeating these guys. Would you help me?" For someone who asks decently... of course, Ill help. People helped me when my pirates were weaklings. The revive feature is actually a hassle and in a fight, say on a flagship or in tormenta, the enemy is gonna swarm the person doing the reviving. So both people will end up in jail. Crewmates working together should be using their dolls to heal and cure, proactively. My doll is mastered on one of my lvl 29 pirates (has been since lvl 26), and if my crewmates need healing assist, I can lay on 1117 pts of cure at a time and that's with only 3 pts on that skill. And for those of us who have been paying and playing since Dec 2007 or earlier, we do have some right to get irritated with these side trips Disney keeps taking. So do the newbs a favor...teach them not to depend on Revive. Give them some advice on how to level up appropriately.
