I am level 32 not. right now, I have mastered cannon, however I am very low level in sailing. I was going to do this with a crew, but do I actually have to steer the pearl in order to complete this quest? Or can one of my high level sailing friends help me?

Only speaking from exerience of doing the boss battle before it went offline (don't know what it will be like when it comes back), sailing level really doesn't matter in the boss battle. I think cannon level helps more. At the beginning there are 4 ships shooting at you, so it's good to have at least 4 in your crew that has fast cannons. That was the only area you could get damaged.

You do have to steer the ship, but it's mainly steering it through the canal and positioning the ship correctly. I didn't or couldn't really use broadsides. And there's not much room to move around anyway.

Again, we don't know what the changes will be when it finally comes out.
