This is why I suggest using the Port broadsides, and sailing CCW around the enemy ship when sailing solo. If you turn to starboard, they turn to port, and you open yourself to their broadsides shots.
If you go CCW around them, you can keep yourself dead in front of them by using your sails to start and stop, and they can't damage you near as much. Quote:

Several here have hit it on the head.
Enemy ships ALL have the same tact. Once they detect you or have been hit, they make a beeline straight at you. Frigates front guns will ONLY fire lead shot as they come. Once they are within close range, they will turn (usually to port) and bring a broadside. So, just keep an enemy facing toward you as your guns bring them down. Once too close, just pivot away - get some distance then turn back. Or, begin to move around them in a wide arc - they can only turn and pursue. |

I find Dreadnoughts and most other Frigates have something in common.
When you shoot them from far, they will aim to you. The thing is, they might not usually fire at you with their front guns, so it's safe to stay right there until they turn. When they turn, they begin firing. If you move while they are still far away, but in range for front gun firing, they WILL shoot at that moment. So it's safe to shoot down the sails, and stay right there. Dreadnoughts might be able to move slowly to you, but the statement above is still set in stone. |

Next Monday, August 3, will be the next lesson.
Going to try for Sloop class vessels. Not a lot of punch, but great speed. When driven properly, a light sloop can take down a Behemoth. It just takes forever!

I actually did that one time! Although I did it when it was in Daylight.
Man, I won't be here August 3rd, I'll be on vacation, kicking it back in Louisiana. Well, enjoy that sloop session. I would lend you my Dark Cobra, but it's not possible lol. |

Looking forward to this one. The only sloop I ever sail is the light sloop. My baby baby, Doc, isn't buying any ship at all till he can get a regular frigate or gallon. So a lesson in taking down the big guys with a light sloop would be great!

I apologize.
I will not make it ingame tonight in time to do the Sloop sailing lesson. I just have to much RL to take care of, so, unless one of the others is willing to take this on, we will have to postpone. Anyone else want to volunteer to lead the lesson? If no one steps up, then we will tentatively reschedule for next Monday.

To be honest, I don't know what's really going on in respects to the sailing lessons. I really know nothing special about sailing a sloop, just the basic aversion techniques.
I'm sure, though, if you'd like us to give you a lesson anyways, that we'd be able to do so. Just let us know, shoot us a PM and we can rustle up some people and take to the seas. Who knows, you might be able to teach us something, especially me, haha. |

We've been a little self absorbed with 250 member guild parties and "the pants" event.

I apologize. August and September are really busy for me, and I have been travelling, which meant no internet connections worth a darn. Hopefully, I'll get some time over the next couple of weeks.
