Disney has announced that Pirates 4 will be directed by Rob Marshall, the director of such action packed blockbusters as "Chicago", "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Nine" (the musical flop, not the animated sock puppet one).
They went on to state that the budget for Pirates 4 has been slashed by a full 33% necessitating a location change from the Caribbean and Los Angeles to Hawaii and London. It's a tax thing...Shooting days have been cut from 145 to 90. Special effect shots will be cut down from 2000 to around 1400. Bruckheimer is still the producer. According to the Los Angeles Times,"As preproduction gets underway in Hawaii, Marshall and Bruckheimer are going through the script line by line looking for more places to trim costs." So...when was the last time a sequel was better because of a reduced budget, a different director, an all-but-different cast, not-quite-authentic locations and fewer visual effects? It's a coin toss really. Pirates 1 and 2 were pretty good. 3? Not great but not terrible. 4? Who knows? |

Psycho was made in only a few months, and their budget wasn't too great. Now look at the movie today, it's a classic.
If this director can make use of the money and locations, it can be good. You never know. I honestly can't wait to see blackbeard in the movie. Now that will be good. |

TSC, the source is from the Pirates of the Caribbean Encyclopedia. They got the info over the last few months from various news articles....
I still would keep my hopes for this new movie, especially with Ian McShane as Blackbeard. I'm not sure about Penelope though. Now, one thing the film needs is a next BIG cast member. I really hope the budget slash will not affect the movie... and I really don't thin the new locations will. And, a new cast isn't that a bad thing for the film, except with all those Liz-Will fans cryin that they should come back for a fourth move (They're stories are way past done!!!!) I have also heard that the EITC and Royal Navy are going to make an appearence in the film. Not sure how, but it could be a mention lie Jack saying "And we took on the fiercest of the fierce, Cutler Beckett, yet nothing compared to Blackbeard" Fair Winds Midhav |

It's mind boggling to me why they would be slashing the budget. The previous 3 movies continue to make money through replays on television ( the whole series was recently on tv), pay per view, licensing ( party cups, toys, posters, etc). The new movie has a ready made audience and you know the first weekend is going to be big.
If they are having money problems, then they need to take a look at their CFO because someone is seriously mismanaging cash. Just my thoughts.. maybe I'm naive. |

They need will and elizabeth, without them the movie seems so... incomplete. they made the movie exciting and action packed, I don't know how the others will handle it.

I find Jack and Barbossa and their witty conflicts much more entertaining. I think I would rather see some new characters and some new roles rather than have them bring back Will and Elizabeth. Plus Elizabeth has a kid now. They sort of killed any further need of a story for them with that alone. I'm satisfied with that being the end of their story. Will could probably come back, but IMO, it makes no difference whether he does or not. Some new characters might be kind of refreshing! |

Storywise, Will and Elizabeth's story has finished. They could contrive a way for them to show - but the third already set us up for this one.
And bringing Blackbeard in should be fun - Ian McShane is the bomb as an actor. I'm curious if Pintell and Ragetti, Cotton or Marty will also show. |

Maybe POTC 4 will be a musical. It does have Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Even Johnny Depp plays guitar and sings.

Will Turner should be in Potc 4 because he took the role of the new Davy Jones. I agree with you guys, Elizabeth should be taken out, permanently in the coming movie, but Will has a sense of action, almost all the battles are linked to him.

He should JB, but I think that he declined participation or wasn't asked to. Either way Orlando Bloom is not going to be in POTC 4. Same with Knightley.
