Aye, Minertown was filled with regular residents that needed to get away from all of the pirating in the main town. They were hard workers who risked their lives to get to the town. Once there, they were successful and prosperous. Rott was a village elder who betrayed them for "power", which he never received. In cahoots with Jolly Roger, they overtook the town, and turned all of the citizens into the undead, forcing them to roam the "Rat's Nest" for eternity. Aye, that lines up with what I heard as well. Also worth commenting that the mystery of Captain Walter has been added on - apparently captured by Captain Rott, but his fate is ambigious. The Marceline Guild must have found some clue in Rat's Nest-nee-Minertown though since they headed to sea as soon as the fighting was done. They also hinted they'd need pirates to hunt for Walter. So, the mystery of the Muertos Guild and Captain Walter continues to evolve.
