Slow.. oh so very slow

My first thread here.
The game often gets unbelievably slow. I swear it's like watching a slide-show that gets stuck. I really don't know what's wrong. The game even closed on it's own once. Here are my computers specs:

Nvidia 8800 GTX 768 MB VRAM (yep it's not a graphical problem)

AMD Athlon FX-60 dual core 2.6 Ghz processor

2 GB DDR2 RAM

500 Watt Processor

Windows XP pro

And i have cable internet, usually 200 Mbps. Soooo... do you think it could be the servers? I don't have Unlimited Access yet.

It seems to be fine when i'm not looking at more than 3 people, and it seems to be at it's worst when i'm out at sea.

Okay. Sorry if this sounds dumb. But when you said your connection was 200Mbps (megabits/sec), were you serious? It's more likely your connection is 200Kbps or 2.0Mbps.

If it's 200K, that's lousy throughput (at least for cable).

Also, check your memory management. If it's set to aggressive, change it to default. My laptop with it set to aggressive is unplayable, even at 800x600 and minimum settings (1.7Ghz Pentium M, 2GB RAM, integrated graphics). But with it on Default, I can play at 1200x800 with most everything turned on and no hiccups.

The game has some pretty bad memory leaks. Disney is aware of them and just hasn't fixed them. If the game begins to get slower and slower on your machine over time the odds are that you have experienced a memory leak. This means that the game is consuming more and more memory as you play. After a couple hours online the game is likely using most of your available memory. You can check by checking with Task manager on windows. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del then select task manager. Choose processes and look at Pirates.exe. If it is using several hundred megs or more of memory shut it down and restart. I am usually connected all day and I usually have to restart a couple of times each day to get the performance back.

That's the nice thing about a 64-bit OS and scads of memory. I usually can't stay on long enough before this becomes a real problem.
