Lagging Like Mad! Any Suggestions?
Even when I first log in POTCO now, I lag for like one minute even with all the graphics turned down and all that. And it's been like this even before SvS came out onto open. I've also tried uninstalling programs, upgrading RAM, anything and everything I can think of, and I know of those lucky pirates who don't get ANY lag what so ever, so, anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried this procedure? I know it helped alot on my laptop.
These instructions dont mention it, but if you do find and edit the described file, back it up first! ![]() Quote:

I've tried that and it just made the lag 5x worse...

I found that changing one of the game options made my lag a little better. On the options tab found in the lower right corner, you can adjust what type of memory conservation you want to use. I had had mine on aggressive, and switched it to default on a whim. Runs much better. Idk if that's a solution for you.
I also upgraded my graphics card and am in the process of upgrading my ram. I still have to deal with the lag, though, especially with the ship pvp. |

Just an FYI, what the aforementioned configuration does....
As I understand it, POTCO defaults to using a method known as "OpenGL" for its 3d rendering. Some videocards support this better than others, and most are designed to work with a now more native Windows 3d engine known as "DirectX" (OpenGL at least used to be the industry standard). The aforementioned procedure tells your system to use "DirectX" 3d engine instead of "OpenGL". In so doing, it often improves performance using methods a videocard 'might' be more accustomed to, and designed for. Now if the lag issue isnt a video lag issue to begin with, this will not help in the least. |

You'd have to create one. The second part of the aforementioned procedure explains what to do if you dont have one.
This would also be a sign that you havent yet attempted changing any of the settings under options, this is generally where they are stored. |
