I have a couple ideas
Your Pirate should be able to have a bounty on his/ Hers head like the more ships you sink the higher your Bounty is and more enemies come up to you able to look at other bounties in the bar and other pirates can look at your bounty. Also Jolly Roger flags Pirates have the Skull and cross bone sighn on their flag
