Ahhhh... I seriously thought maybe there were some other suggestions I had not seen that had been removed. Since this is a problem that has happened to other guilds, and potentially could happen to any guild still, I am very interested in this thread!
MIMI, I am very sorry this happened to you, but if I may pull a ray of light from your gloom, it would be a better awareness of this threat for the rest of us. Thanks for posting and letting us know. Good luck to ye, mate--and let us know if there's anything else we can do.

i know those rules and sorry... however how can anyone with a guild prevent anybody from doing such an act. if it has happened before to someone before this case, most likely it will happen to someone else later on... just saying...

That is just so wrong. I'm sorry to hear that some scoundrel did that to you and your guild Mimi. Best of luck finding your guild again.

How to prevent--don't know if ye can actually prevent it. A disgruntled officer could do the same thing without any malice aforethought. However, be prepared:
First, nobody becomes an Officer by asking. Yer gonna have to put in time, mates! Once it's an investment, yer less likely to want to grief. Also, by taking time to become an officer, we'll see if ye actually have what it takes (hopefully). Thirdly, perhaps a griefer can actually begin enjoying the game and change his ways--just by trying to stay in the Guild. But ye can prepare for when a Griefer strikes. Check my posts above.

Just to continue with Barts post above:
This is why Guilds who have been around for some time do not promote officers right away - and NEVER promote officers who ask to become officers! ![]() ASKING to become an officer in a guild put a big target on you saying 'Im power hungry'... Hard work and actions of a player over a period of time (each guild has their own guage for what this time should be - but can be days, weeks or even months) those who work hard in the game helping others, are fairly consistant in being in the game (real life DOES come first, but ones a month usually doen't cut a good officer), and try to become well informed about the game (locations of items, understand good weapon usage, quest assistance) make good officers... Players may also become trouble later (you always hope everyone gets along - but its not always possible) and Guilds must have a good groundwork to deal with these issues as well). Finally, the Guild must be run by a Good GM (or if run by a GM Group - a stong GM Leadership) to make the hard decisions when it comes to problems - as unfortunately things like this happen and decisions have to be made. Here are a couple of poss on Guild Creation (One by Bart himself above )So you Want To Start A Guild Crews And Guilds |

I sincerely hope the best, and im happy to hear youve recovered some members.
The talk of the individuals name, and using it to report concerns me however. Quote:
Ive come across pirates with identical names to my friends.. started talking to them before realizing it wasnt them. Unless you have a somewhat unique pirate name like "Zeppers" or "OFx Zeppers".. lol yea you'll find me im sure, and not likely any dupes of those hehe. I cannot emphasize enough the fact that 'names' are just not sufficient people. You'll end up scrutinizing someone that is completely innocent. You will be fair, but someone else will give them a hard time using poor judgement (ie the name will be enough). Perhaps having a very common name in RL (which I cannot repeat here) helps me to realize this. My family has been turned down credit before because of the mistakes some other family with the same name made. |

What is wrong with some peeps? This is a GAME!!!! People join POTCO to enjoy themselves...not deal with drama! Shame on those who are trying to turn a good thing bad...and I am very sorry for the guilds that have had to endure this disaster

Agreed. Like I said before in this thread, I've seen this happen I don't know how many times to other guilds and I think that the people who would do such a thing are lower than pond scum. One of the guilds that got destroyed because of rouge Officers was Erich Uchiha (Partners in Crime Party Officer's) guild, I forgot the name of it though. Before he joined PIC, he used to run a guild and there was this one kid who Erich thought would be a good Officer, so he promoted him, and a month later, this Officer ejected all the members. Erich knew it was him because the only other Officer was Erich's RL friend, so it couldn't have been him. So the next day, he went to Abassa to look for the rouge and asked him why he ejected everyone and he said, "Because I felt like it." So you see, like Max and Bart stated eariler, you have to be careful about who you promote, because a good guild isn't only judged on the Guildmaster---the Officers prove a lot as well. They are in a lead position and there for, they are expected by the good GM to help lead the guild and represent it in the best way possible. If you're inviting people into your guild and they ask to be promoted 2 seconds later, and I'm being honest when I say this: They're either looking to destroy your guild, or they just want the power to boss others around. A good Guildmaster will never promote anyone that asks for power because they don't know what it means to be an Officer in your guild. If any other GMs are reading this, I recommend that you take into consideration that there will always be people who would want to cause trouble for other guilds either out of revenge, or for amusement, or any other reason. Like Bart said before, I would establish a guild site and urge the members/officers to join POF or any other site so that if anything like that happens, they can always reassemble. What I'm about to say has happened to PIC and I just want to give everyone a head's up about this: If anyone makes another pirate and treats to eject all your members because they say that they have an Officer pirate in your guild and you don't know who...Demote everyone other than your most trusted, otherwise demote EVERYONE! Risks like that aren't worth taking and although it may be Heck for a few days, it all will resolve in the end if you're a serious GM enough to keep a close enough eye on all the suspects, and eventually, EJECT the one (s) who you think are the one (s) behind all the mayhem. And yes, this happened to PIC a long time ago in the summer and we DID find out who was treatening. (Good thing he didn't eject any members.)

Oh, I did propose an idea about a lock option: that'd be the way to keep a member a member without forcing yourself to promote them. Check my guild controls thread.

This has happened to my guild twice now! Im ready to kick out GM's pirate tush!
We have a rule in our guild ..in order to become an officer you must pass 3 officers tests (given by other officers in the guild) If you pass...your an officer. Unfortunately our GM decided to do things a little differently lol. I have also started (as Co-GM) that you must be in guild at least 2 weeks before being able to take the officer tests. I hope you find all your members...I know what your going through! |
