An excerpt from Nelly & Thomas' journals... Part one
It is with great interest we write about a discovery we have made during our adventures. It seems we exist in a series of identical universes... each one the same, but an entirely different existence.
We theorize that there are a series of worlds - each with its own Port Royal, Tortuga, Padres, and that it is possible to move from one 'universe' to the next. These seem to be of good service to us pirates, so we have started calling them 'servers'.
There are limitations to these worlds, or existences however... a pirate can only exist on ONE at any given time, while his friends might be in an entirely different universe, or 'server'. Amazingly, us pirates have the ability to speak to each other across these boundaries, and even 'jump' or 'teleport' from one to another if needed.
Loner pirates might prefer 'servers' with less people, while we have discovered another existence that is rather rowdy and uncivilized... we have learned those who exist here call it 'Abassa' which can be translated to 'he frowned' or 'land of the scary mouth'. It can indeed be a scary place, or existence for unprepared pirates.
Another phenomenon is the fact that you have little control over when a friend makes a 'jump' to your existence. Common courtesy seems to be to 'request' or 'politely notify' a pirate before you jump universal planes of existence to practically land on top of them... yet, some just jump with little or no notice, sometimes interrupting the dispatching of a creature, or a private moment with a friend, and even often resulting in the 'jumper' dying if they 'teleport' to a high level friend on Tormenta. This can sometimes be a blessing in disguise to the person landed on.
We found this discovery to be fairly substantial. In our months of experimenting with various aspects while we explore, the 'server' discovery was a welcome escape from our sometimes ongoing experiments of running into seemingly solid walls and corners seeking out the parallel dimensions that lurk behind the scenes of our daily lives here. (We will be writing soon about our 'glitch' discoveries and trials)
Another thing we are pondering is how come the creatures and our sworn enemies in these worlds never learn to avoid us, and when we defeat one, another almost immediately pops up in the defeateds place? Have they no homes? No families? No learning curve? We spent an entire day grenading General Darkhart over and over only to have him 'respawn' seconds after defeating him again and again! Did he not get tired and want to go home? Is he getting paid better than we pirates are? On the bright side, we did gain three grenade levels.
More ponderings to come - off to Abassa Tortuga to explore the local um.. wildlife.
