Leveling Question

Hello maties! Arr.

Now that I got that out of the way. I need some help to understand how you level in this game.

From what I have read, it looks like you get 25 skill points per skill group to customize your pirate. When I start a new pirate, I have 0 skill points available on cutlass and I have 1 dot in hack and in slash.

So, my questions are:
1) If I click on a new skill that becomes available to me, does that use up a skill point?

My guess is that it will...

2) If it does, then if I count the dots on cutlass after I use all my skill points, would I then have 27 dots? 25 for skills I added/upgraded plus the 2 I got for the starter skills at lvl 1?

I think it is important to understand how the skill points come into play before I start taking skills. If taking a new skill does not use a point, then I guess I would take them all. If it does, then I might skip some so I can have more points to upgrade the ones I choose.

Thanks for the help.

Angel is a pirate wannabe
You only put skill points where you want. If you unlock a skill by lvling you have the choice to use it or not. My second pirate is gettin the ultimate make over. I have about 25 unused skill points on all my weapons combined. I learned from my mistakes which ones were good and which were bad to get. Especially at an early lvl (Some make it harder to lvl up and others just do more damage than good ie. Shrapnel effects grenades)!

24 points to spend per skill since they start at level 1 and not 0.

And as Angel said, when you unlock a new skill by reaching the required level you won't be able to use it unless you spend a point in it. Some skills you'll want 5 points in, some just 1 or 2 and some skills you should completely ignore.

Thanks Angel & TobiasOhawk.

So activating a skill does use a point. The point going into the first dot of the activated skill.

So in the case of Cutlass, you would have 26 dots after activating the skills you choose and placing the remaining points to level the skills up.

(24 points for leveling plus the dot you get in hack and the dot in slash at lvl 1)

OK. So far, so good.

So the combo skills look to be fairly simple to me. From what I can tell, the higher level combo skills give you the most damage. In order to get to that higher damage skill, you have to pass through all the lower level ones you activate by completing the combo in combat.

Does the damage simply stack or is it multiplied in some way by the number of combo hits you make? I think it just adds up without some mulitplier but I am not sure.
