The launcher application uses a standard decompression algorithm often used by malware because it's extremely efficient. This is the reason it's often flagged as a false positive by less-than-careful software (eg. AVG). Quote:

Arioch's idea works fine for me.
I used to get booted alot before and killing the launcher.exe process once the game is started, I can leave my pirates loged in for hours. Yesterday, I was loged in with the launcher.exe killed and went to the Mall and everything... 6 hours later, my pirates was sleeping lol. Arioch you deserve credit for your workaround Matey!. |

I have stated this before, and yes this does help with lag. When you go to the task manager/ processes, you can see what is using a lot of memory. Pirates launcher is a good one to shut down, but most will find how much their explorer uses and probably find a bigger increase by closing that down while playing.

Last nite while svsing I had this problem come up. Now it is nothing unusual to get a lag when getting too close to the other ships nor unusual to get a lag around what I call the "glitch rocks" and those things will produce a delay for me. But last nite I did not experience any lag. It was like one second the ship I was taking down was right beside me then the next second it was 10 to 20 ft. in front of my ship. At first I thot he or she logged or was booted off until I looked up and there it was in front of me. I can usually tell when someone is glitching so I am not sure in this case. This happened several times last nite and it was very annoying especially when I am on cannon. I asked my GM who was at the wheel if he saw what just happened and he said he did experience the same thing. So it wasn't just me. So can anyone tell me was the ship glitching or do we both have computer problems? We were on Andosa Ocean at the time. Thank you to anyone that can help me figure this out.

That said, on the "crazy-A servers" there is an enormously higher frequency of that class of glitch. When I see it happen 5 times in a row with only a single ship (and never with any others) its a pretty good indication that they've figured out a way to trigger that server-side lag. In my book, that isn't a glitch, that's an exploit. I wish Big-D shared my opinion; but they obviously don't, on that one. |

Thefadedrose,
It is not a glitch what you just described...it happens alot in Abassa-Andoso servers because of the amount of users logged in which causes massive lag and you will be experiencing this more if you are in a crew with more then 5 pirates on it, and! the total number of PvP ships (French + Spanish) causes lag as well. Sometimes you will also see that you shoot and shoot and see No Damage to the enemy-ship because it is all based on the same thing mentioned above. |

Thanks Edward for the input. I will see if the "Take Cover" is on when it happens. It happened to me again last night but only did it with this one ship which caused a huge lag when we got close to it so I figured they were glitching plus I had a hard time producing damage but finally I figured out the combination to use to take it down. And this time we weren't on an "A" server. And Ghostcannon? I am the only crew and it was like 8 ships total (5 vs. 3) and I don't call that a massive amount of ships like you find on Abassa Ocean. Last nite there was a ship that was glitched in the port area that kept coming back up when you took it down (someone was AFK onboard and you were unable to tp to him). But anyways thanks again for the info. Kani of Spartan Ellite
